Opera Strike

It was a sad day for music-lovers that had dressed up and planned a swanky night out at the Cairo Opera House last night. Rather than be swept back into the magic and mystery of Ancient Egypt by Vivaldi's world-famous Opera Aida, they were very much reminded of the bleakness of 'New Egypt' when the curtains were raised. Instead of sopranos and falsettos, the audience were treated to revolutionary chants and signs bearing angsty slogans. The entire crew and cast of Opera Aida announced their strike to the somewhat befuddled opera fans, in protest to the firing of their director, refusing to put on the show.
