Percussionist Sabrine Darbuka to Perform Live at COP27’s Green Zone

Known as the most prominent female darbuka player in Egypt and the Middle East, Sabrine Darbuka aka Sabrine El Hossamy is about to show off her eclectic percussion skills in the Green Zone at the COP27 UN Climate Change Conference. On November 12th at 3:30 PM, and November 13th at 5:30 PM, El Hossamy will beat on her handpan drum in front of a global audience as part of the conference’s cultural exchange.

Having been mentored by Turkey’s Misrli Ahmet, one of the foremost darbuka players in the world, El Hossamy has taken her own multicultural and cross-genre style to many international jazz and percussion festivals. She won the Best Performance award at the Egypt National Festival, as well as best performance in the Free Festival in Jordan in 2017. In 2016, she founded Dom Tak Cairo to pass on her teachings and to create a space where musicians and lovers of music can gather to learn and connect.
