Presidential Advisor: Egypt Granted USD 196 Million in Aid to Gaza

The Egyptian government provided Gaza EGP 5.861 billion (approximately USD 196 million) worth of aid, according to Mohamed Awad Tag El-Din, the presidential adviser for health affairs. This statement was made during a virtual press conference hosted by the World Health Organization (WHO) to provide updates on health emergencies in the Middle East region.

Tag El-Din mentioned that Egypt facilitated the delivery of medical aid to Gaza through various channels, including land, sea and air. He highlighted the substantial support from hundreds of Egyptian volunteers offering assistance to Palestinians, as well as the Egyptian Red Crescent’s role in providing aid with an estimated cost of USD 70 million.

Egypt’s State Information Service Chairman, Diaa Rashwan, noted that the primary obstacle over the past 100 days has been deliberate delays imposed by Israeli authorities inspecting aid at border crossings. Since October 7th, 9,000 trucks have crossed from the Egyptian side of the Rafah crossing to Gaza.

Rashwan emphasised that 82% of all aid delivered to Gaza originates from private and public Egyptian contributions. Furthermore, he highlighted that Egypt has received and treated 1,210 patients from Gaza in Egyptian and neighbouring countries' hospitals.
