Roll with Semiramis

The InterContinental Semiramis is holding a one-day sushi-making course for a taste of Japan you can keep forever. Imagine that on your CV!

Staff Writer

Sushi remains the plat du jour for Cairo's cool kids and although it might have taken you two years to familiarise yourself with the Japanese terms and help your pallate go from molokheya to maki, the InterContinental Semiramis thinks you can do better. You might have popped by for a taste of "Sushiramis" before - their sushi dining concept where you can order a fresh selection of your favourite Japanese delicacies, wherever you are you in the sprawling hotel - but have you ever paused to wonder what makes it so good? You can learn the tricks of the trade and find out how to make the perfect roll as their lauded chef Edwin takes you through sushi 101.

For just 200LE (there's a 25% discount for members of the Egyptian Chefs Association - perfect for professionals who want to diversify) you'll get four-hour masterclass in the ancient art of rolling (that's sushi, not joints) from the man who's been tantalising our tastebuds for quite some time now. The event held in The Grill restaurant on the 8th of October will also include a traditional Japanese tea ceremony, and each participant will get a Bento Box lunch which combines the best of Japanese cuisne in one gorgeous presentation. Though chefs are encouraged to attend, the class is open to everyone and you're bound to go home with some seriously impressive skills.

InterContinental Semiramis' Sushi Making Demo will be held on 8th October, from 10AM - 2PM. Reservations necessary. To book your place in the class, call the Egyptian Chefs Association on 02-37622116/7/8 or email amrfawaz@egyptchefs.com.
