Saudi Universities to Bar Students Without National Dress From Entry
Traditional attire, including the thobe, Shemagh and Agal, will become mandatory for university access in Saudi Arabia.
Saudi universities have announced a new dress code policy mandating that all students wear traditional Saudi attire, including the thobe, Shemagh, and Agal. This policy stipulates that students not dressed in the national uniform will not be permitted entry into university campuses, classrooms, or any university-related events.
The policy, which was initially introduced in May, is part of a broader initiative aimed at fostering a sense of national belonging and preserving Saudi cultural heritage among the youth. University authorities assert that the dress code not only reinforces respect for national traditions but also serves to maintain the cultural decorum within the academic sphere.
Students are expected to adhere to this dress code while on university premises, during lectures, and when visiting any university departments. The universities have emphasized that the implementation of this policy is crucial for upholding the values and traditions that are core to Saudi identity.
