Sherif Sedky Reappointed as CEO of Egyptian Space Agency
Sedky has previously held the positions of Provost of the AUC as well as Executive President of Zewail City.
Sherif Sedky has been reappointed as Chief Executive Officer of the Egyptian Space Agency with the rank of Minister, according to a presidential decree.
Sedky previously served as the director of the Yousef Jameel Science and Technology Center, as well as in the office of Provost of the American University in Cairo. He was also the Executive President of Zewail City of Science and Technology, a non-profit institution of learning.
The Egyptian Space Agency is a governmental organisation whose chief objectives include the acquisition of space and satellite technology for the country. The Agency launched four satellites into space in 2022, which are being used for scientific study.
Egypt is also home to the permanent headquarters of the African Space Agency. The entity is the African Union’s official entity in the space industry, and collaborates with other international space agencies to advance technological development throughout the African continent. The Egyptian headquarters was declared officially open in January 2023.
