Sherine Banned From Singing in Egypt Following Controversial Incident in a Beirut Concert
"You'd get bilharzia if you drank from the Nile, better drink Evian," are the words that landed Sherine in legal troubles.
Egypt's Muiscisians Syndicate decided earlier Tuesday to ban the Egyptian pop star Sherine from singing in the country following the singer's comments in a Beirut concert on Monday, Sky News Arabia reports.
During the concert, a fan shouted at Sherine 'Did you drink from the Nile?', in reference to her big hit 'Mashrebtesh Men Nelha'. Sherine then responded, "you'd get bilharzia if you drink from the Nile; better drink Evian (expensive French mineral water)."
The Music Syndicate took further legal action against Sherine and referred her to an official investigation before the syndicate's legal council, in which she will be defending herself against charges of damaging Egypt's image, according to Sky News Arabia.
