Sidi Beshr Mosque Garden in Alexandria Will Soon Be Restored
The mosque is one of Alexandria’s oldest Islamic landmarks.
Alexandria’s Sidi Bishr Mosque will soon undergo major renovations at its garden and square.
Named after Sheikh Bishr al-Gawhari, whose Moroccan and Andalusian ties heavily inspired the mosque’s architecture, the mosque is one of Alexandria’s oldest Islamic landmarks..
As a result of severe climate and environmental changes, the mosque’s garden - as well as the dome adorning it - were heavily affected and were starting to fall apart, risking the lives of its visitors.
The restoration work will take around four months and will be carried out by the Faculty of Arts in Alexandria and the National Organization for Urban Harmony.
