Stunning Space Stone Found
This beautiful freak of nature was auctioned off for $20,000.
Like something out of a Men in Black film, the stone featured above was recently auctioned off by Bonhams for around $20,000. It's not photoshopped and barely treated. Found in Opal Butte, Oregan, it is - as its home suggests - an opal stone. Opal is a hydrated amorphous form of silica, it is also a beautiful mind-fuck. Just look at it, a veritable whisper of the universe's imagination encapsulated in a tiny gemstone 4.6 x 4.4 x 1 CMs in size.
"Clear, transparent crystal body having a fine, firey play-of-color that is gem quality", the auction house describes it. "The piece has a botryoidal jasper formation which forms a unique inclusion.
