Suez Canal Authority to Launch 6 New Tugboats & Floating Port

The Suez Canal Authority is set to launch six new tugboats and a floating port by the end of 2023. The tugboats - named Mohamed Negm, Mohamed al-Ghamry, and Galal El Dib - are being built at the Port Said Shipyard, whilst the other tugboats - dubbed Amin Zeid, Mohamed Beshir, and Nabil al-Helaly - have been built in China.

The new tugboats and floating port will increase the capacity of the Suez Canal, allowing more ships to pass through efficiently. This will not only improve the canal's revenue but also promote economic growth in the region.

Each tugboat measures 32 metres in length and 12.8 metres in width, with a pull strength of 75 tons and ASD propellers. The vessels are set to start testing in the second half of 2023 before officially entering service.

Meanwhile, the Suez Canal Authority is also constructing a floating port called the ‘Pride of the Canal’, with a dimension of 260 metres in length and 62 metres in width. It has a capacity of 35,000 tons and is expected to be completed by April and handed over to the Port Said Shipyard in June.
