The sixth edition of the Zayed Marathon will take place in Suez this year.
In its sixth edition and following its incredible success of previous years, preparations are underway for 2019’s Zayed Marathon, which is set to take place in Suez on December 27th. The marathon reflects the spirit of sportsmanship between Egypt and the Emirates, having been brought to Egypt by the UAE in cooperation with the Egyptian Ministry of Youth and Sports. It also reflects their shared dedication to sports inclusivity, as it will include a race for para-athletes.
The marathon was hosted by Cairo in its initial years and has since expanded to Luxor and Ismailia. This year, the event will take place in Suez, and all proceeds will go towards Cairo University’s National Cancer Institute.
Thousands of runners are expected to take part this year with the opportunity to win impressive monetary prizes. There will be a category for professional runners and amateur runners, who will race along the 8-kilometre route. There will also be a 2-kilometre route for para-athletes, including participants in wheelchairs.
In order to facilitate transportation to the marathon, the organizers have planned buses to take participants and spectators to Suez from several Egyptian cities.
