In cooperation with United Nations Women, the National Council for Women has launched an online mental health initiative through its social media pages. The initiative includes a number of educational videos featuring a number of psychologists and medical institutions catered towards the mental health of Egyptian women. The first video, titled ‘Balance in the Time of Corona’, discusses the steps that can help you achieve internal calmness. The project comes in light of lockdowns all around the globe, which exposes many women to longer periods at home where they could be more prone to mental or physical harm if they live in an abusive household.

Maya Morsi, the president of the National Council for Women, said that the initiative is crucial in educating the public about the importance of mental health and social support, especially to those most vulnerable to exploitation and harm. UN Women representative, Gilan Al Masiri, emphasized the necessity of mental health services to be considered and adopted as basic services that must be made available to all women and girls.
