These Historic Wonders Will Be Open to the Public After Renovations

Throughout May, the Supreme Council of Antiquities oversaw the completion of several renovations across Egypt, including Mohamed Ali palace in Shubra, Ben Azra synagogue and the Fort of Papillon in old Cairo, as well as the mosque of Al-Zahir Baybers, Al-Aqmar mosque and the water wheel building at Magra El-Oyoun aqueduct. Some of these sites are either currently open to the public, or will be in the near future.

The month also saw the restoration and opening of ancient Roman cemetery Gabbanet Al-Shatby, one of the oldest historic sites in Alexandria, as well as the renovation of the mosque and mausoleum of Sidi Shibl Al-Usood in Menofia.

Additionally, the Supreme Council retrieved and restored four artefacts that have previously been smuggled to Italy, and discovered two of the largest mummification workshops in the country.
