Time For Female Coders To Shine At Microsoft's Code 4 Her Event
Global tech giant, Microsoft, hopes to inspire and encourage women and girls to develop their coding skills.
Mar 03, 2016
International Women's Day is on March 8th, and Microsoft Egypt is showing that it’s serious about improving opportunities for women by teaming up with the Aspire Women Initiative for a three-day Code 4 Her event.
The event will focus on empowering women to use technology to overcome obstacles in Egypt’s patriarchal society. Over the course of three days, women and girls will be given the tools to make their app ideas a reality. Using the latest technology powered by Microsoft, and under the supervision of Microsoft’s experts, attendees will be using object-oriented programming languages to develop their ideas for mobile platforms and Windows 10. The event is also an excellent networking opportunity for those looking to start or advance their career in the tech sector.
Statistics from 2012 show that women made up slightly less than a quarter of Egypt’s workforce, and are grossly underrepresented in government - even post-revolution. With no solution in sight for the dire economic situation, Egypt needs to empower as many of its people as possible to become innovators and disruptors - even *gasp* women.
Code 4 Her starts on March 6th and runs through the 8th.
