2 Books Published by AUC Press Just Got Featured on Prestigious International Lists

In a year during which a plethora of Egyptian productions caught the world's eyes, two books published by the AUC Press, a prominent Egyptian English-language publishing house, were able to garner acclaim on a global level in 2016.

The first was No Knives in the Kitchens of this City by Syrian author, poet, and screenwriter Khaled Khalifa, which made its way to the Financial Times' Top Three Best Fiction in Translation Titles of 2016. The tragic novel documenting the life of a Syrian family in Aleppo, and its descent into tragedy and ruin, was awarded the Naguib Mahfouz Medal for Literature in 2013, and was shortlisted for the International Prize for Arabic Fiction in 2014. This paragon of tragic literary art recently received a raving review by The New York Times. The second one was Scanning the Pharaohs: CT Imaging of the New Royal Kingdom Mummies, which was listed among Choice magazine's 2016 Outstanding Academic Titles. Co-authored by former Egyptian minister of antiquities and renowned Egyptologist Zahi Hawas, and professor of radiology at Cairo University Sahar Saleem, the book is an odyssey to the cutting-edge imaging technology used to examine the royal mummies of the New Kingdom, presenting astonishing results about the genealogy of ancient Egyptians and the familial relationships that bound them. It also introduces some unforeseen discoveries in the medical realm.
