Two of Ancient Egypt's Biggest Mummifying Workshops Found in Saqqara

Saqqara, one of Egypt's largest royal necropolises, has once again revealed its secrets to the world. This morning, the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities held an event - organised by local powerhouses Venture Liefstyle - to celebrate the groundbreaking find, which was unearthed by the renowned archaeologist and Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, Dr. Mostafa Waziri and his team.
The team has uncovered two rooms for embalming and mummification; one for humans and one for animals, in addition to two huge tombs. The fascinating discovery comes after a huge host of mummified animals were discovered at the site. The elated Dr. Waziri, accompanied by his team of archaeologists, gave a speech surrounded by statues and artefacts excavated from the site, including a statue of Min Khper from 1300BC.
Addressing the crowd, Dr. Waziri called the day “historic”, one that will “stay in your minds for the rest of your lives.” He spoke of the breakneck speed at which work at the world heritage site has progressed since it began in April 2018, and thanked the project’s sponsor, Venture Lifestyle.
Also present at the event was Ahmed Issa, the Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, who shared his gratitude for the archeological team’s dedication as well as his excitement for the future of the site. “All of Saqqara’s secrets have not been revealed yet. There are many more to come.”
