VIDEO: Official Trailer For Kahlil Gibran's The Prophet

Kahlil Gibran, the 20th century artist, poet and writer takes as much space in Egyptians' hearts as he does in Facebook feed quotes. He's like the Pop icon for lofty romantic prose and philosophical ponderings of the soul. His 1923 novel The Prophet was an international sensation, translated into 40 different languages world-wide and has never been out of print. The beautifully written work follows Almustafa, who before departing his village has a discussion with its people that covers everything from clothes and marriage, to family life and love. The official trailer for the adaptation of the book, produced by Salma Hayek has now been released and it's directed by The Lion King's Roger Allers. The animation will feature the voices of Liam Neeson, Salma Hayek-Pinault, John Krasinski, Frank Langella, Alfred Molina, John Rhys-Davies and Quvenzhané Wallis. The official synopsis of the film goes, “The story portrays the unlikely friendship between a young mischievous girl and an imprisoned poet. The film has distilled the 26 poems in Gibran’s 1923 classic into a collection of eight animated films from eight directors.” The Prophet is set to be released on August 7, 2015 in Los Angeles and New York before expanding it worldwide the following week.
