Vaccinated Egyptians to Receive COVID Booster Shots

The Ministry of Health and Population's Higher Committee to Combat Coronavirus has announced that those who have been vaccinated will receive an additional booster dose of a COVID-19 vaccine one year after their original dose. Plans are underway to implement a system where the COVID-19 vaccine is given annually, like the flu shot.

The dose is available in a variety of different vaccines and will not necessarily have to match with the initial vaccine taken. These booster shots will be categorised as a ‘third dose’.

All vaccines in Egypt are approved by the World Health Organization (WHO) and large quantities have been important from abroad or locally-manufactured in Egypt.

There has been a noticeable increase in the number of COVID-19 infections, galvanizing the Ministry of Health and Population to curb the spread by ramping up the mass vaccination plan nationwide, with sights set on vaccinating a total of 40 million people by the end of 2021.
