Video: New Fatwa Says Europeans Won't Be Punished by God For Not Believing in Islam

Egyptian news portal Al Bawaba reported yesterday that Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayyeb, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, issued a fatwa on a Ramadan TV show that declares Europeans as “people of interval,” who will not be subject to God’s punishment.

Elaborating further, Sheikh Al-Tayyeb argued that, “The people of Europe now do not know anything about Islam except what they see on television; killing and so forth,” and that for this reason “[people of interval] has been applied to them.”

The label of “people of interval” - which refers to people who have not been sufficiently informed about Islam in a correct manner, lived in eras between prophets, or did not receive the word of islam during their lifetime - has been largely contested amongst Islamic scholars.

It remains unclear whether the term “Europeans” still applies to the UK following the hilariously misguided Brexit vote.
