Veteran Palestinian journalist Wael Al Dahdouh arrives at Qatar Hospital for medical treatment after departing Gaza via Egypt’s Rafah crossing on January 16th.
Al Dahdouh has been the face of Al Jazeera’s 24-hour coverage of the escalated genocide in Gaza since October 7th. During this period, he had to report on the murder of his wife and three children, including 27-year-old Hamza Al Dahdouh, who was also a journalist for Al Jazeera.
On December 15th, Al-Dahdouh sustained injuries in an Israeli drone strike that claimed the life of 45-year-old Al Jazeera cameraman Samer Abu Daqqa. The two journalists were covering an Israeli airstrike targeting a school used as a shelter in southern Gaza.
Abu Daqqa, initially injured, faced a denial of treatment for over five hours. Israeli forces obstructed ambulances and rescue workers from reaching him during this critical period.
