Wrestler Samar Hamza Takes 1st Silver Medal at World Championship

At 27 years old, Egyptian athlete Samar Hamza has built an accomplished wrestling career, having represented Egypt in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. She was also the first Egyptian woman to win a Wrestling World Championship medal when she previously earned the bronze medal in 2021.

Tonight, Hamza played against Turkish wrestler and world champion, Yasemin Ader, in the Wrestling World Championships final, a match that ended with a 6-0 loss in favor of Ader. Despite the loss, Hamza still made history as the first Egyptian woman to achieve a silver medal in the World Championships, surpassing her own achievement the year before.
