The award-winning Sudanese drama film premiered at the Venice International Film Festival.
Zawya Cinema will reshow the award-winning Sudanese drama film ‘You Will Die at 20’ (2019) starting September 25th, with daily screenings thereafter. Directed by Amjad Abu Alala, the screening on September 27 will be followed by a discussion with the director.
Abu Alala announced the news on Facebook, stating, “We were unfortunately deprived of the chance to screen the film in Sudan; hopefully, Egypt’s Sudanese community can watch it in Cairo.”
The film tells the story of a Sudanese woman who takes her newborn son to receive a blessing from a holy man. She learns of a troubling prophecy that her son will die at the age of 20, which shapes the boy's life and leads him to live in a state of pity.
You Will Die at 20 premiered at the Venice International Film Festival, where it won the Lion of the Future award for Best Debut Film. It also screened at the 3rd edition of the El Gouna Film Festival, winning the Golden Star in the Feature Narrative Competition.
The film is subtitled in English, with tickets priced at EGP 100.
