Zawya Cinema Honours Naguib Mahfouz's Legacy With Special Screenings
Downtown Cairo’s Zawya Cinema will celebrate Naguib Mahfouz’s cinematic legacy with seven special screenings.
Downtown Cairo’s Zawya Cinema is celebrating renowned literary figure and Nobel prize winner Naguib Mahfouz. From February 15th to March 2nd, Zawya is hosting the ‘Naguib Mahfouz Film Program’, in partnership with Diwan Publishing, the Naguib Mahfouz Project and Rizo Masr. The program will spotlight the prolific author’s impact on Egyptian cinema by screening five feature film adaptations of his novels, and two films that were written by Mahfouz himself.
Mahfouz wrote 35 novels over the span of his 70-year career, many of which were adapted into films including ‘Chased by the Dogs’ (1962), ‘Kasr El Shawk’ (1967) and ‘Al Karnak’ (1975).
