Zawya Cinema Screens 'Samar, Before the Final Picture' on August 30th

‘Samar, Before the Final Picture’, an independently-produced documentary about a woman who survived a vicious acid attack by her ex-husband, and navigates both physical and psychological healing, is being screened at Downtown Cairo’s Zawya Cinema.

Following the real-life story of Samar, the film is an incredibly intimate production as we delve into her journey of recovery alongside her friend, Sanaa, who was also subjected to an acid attack by her own cousin. In spite of the traumatic nature of the attacks, the film sheds light on the heartwarming and feelgood moments shared between the pair. Perhaps most uniquely, the director Aya Tallah Yusuf participates in the film’s dialogue. Over an eight-year journey, the three women’s dynamic gave the movie its character.

Following its screening to charity organisations abroad, the film’s first screening in Egypt took place at Zawya Cinema. It will be screened there again on Friday, August 30th, and then a panel with the main character Samar, director Aya Tallah Yusuf, Cairo Film Factory founder Nahed Nasr and psychologist Dr. Nabil El Ott will take place. The panel, titled ‘Samar’s Inspiring Journey to Healing From Trauma’, will take place at 7 PM following the film’s screening.
