Zawya Short Film Festival Returns and Reveals its Picks of Flicks

The festival, which will run from January 29th to 31st, will screen films created by local filmmakers.

Zawya has revealed their line-up for their upcoming short film festival, which will showcase films made by Egyptian filmmakers who reside in the country. In its 5th edition, Zawya Shorts V will run from the 29th to 31st of January at Cinema Karim in Downtown. Sixteen films will be screened at the festival, including Nada Fakhry's "The Trap" which was features at the Cannes Critics' Week Competition last year, and Mohamed Tarek’s “Marwan Pablo is the Egyptian Godfather of Rap”, a short documentary on the groundbreaking local Egyptian trap and rap artist. The festival will also screen the post-apocalyptic sci-fi drama “The Apocalypse” directed by filmmaker duo Ramy Allam and Ahmed El Shamaa.

Q&A sessions, moderated by director Bassam Mortada, will come after all of the film screenings, to allow audience members to interact with the filmmakers and understand the films to a greater depth. Additionally, the short films will be competing for the prizes of Red Star Films Best Film Award (15,000 EGP), Misr International Films Best Director Award (10,000 EGP), Film Clinic Audience Award (10,000 EGP) and New Century Productions Jury Prize (10,000 LE).

Daily tickets will cost 50 LE and provide an all-day pass for the screenings, which are all scheduled to begin at 7 pm. For more information, you can visit Zawya’s Facebook page.
