Egyptians Can Now Get Temporary Licenses for Electric Cars

The temporary licenses will be issued until the completion of the full legalisation of the licensing process for electric vehicles.

Egypt's Ministry of Interior recently announced that it will be issuing temporary license plates and licenses to electric car owners, reports Egypt Independent.

In an effort to encourage a move towards electric-powered vehicles, the temporary license plates will be given out until the completion of the full legalisation of the licensing process for electric vehicles.

With Egypt having already signed a mutual agreement with China for the production of electric cars in Egypt, Minister of State for Military Production, Mohamed al-Assar adds that the agreement comes as part of the country's effort to bring this technology to Egypt with the deal including a four-year production of 2,000 buses, followed by the production of other kinds of electric cars.

While awaiting the full legalisation of permanent licenses for owners of electric cars, traffic departments have been requested to issue licence plates and permits as part of the traffic law.

In 2018, Egyptian company, Revolta, installed the first charging stations for electric vehicles, followed by the Four Seasons First Residence, which was the first hotel to install them.
