The area, whose name translates to ‘charm and beauty’, sits off of the Ismailia-Suez Desert Road and has long been recognised as a hotbed of drug trafficking. According to Egypt Today, one of the two unnamed men killed has identified as having an extensive criminal record, with charges against him not only including drug trafficking, but also forced robbery, possession of unlicensed weapons and murder.

“The accused and his aide sensed the arrival of the forces and initiated by firing heavy weapons,” said a statement released by the Security Directorate of Ismailia. “Security forces managed to deter them and cordoned off the area and took control of the situation.”

The raid also uncovered a machine gun, 250 bullets, a CZ 9mm pistol, an unspecified amount of heroin, five digital scales, 10 mobile phones, an unlicensed motorcycle and EGP 23,000 in cash.
