Port Said to Become First Governorate in Egypt to Offer Extensive Digital Public Services

The digital age has finally arrived to Egypt. As part of the government’s ‘digital transformation of the state’, Port Said is set to become the first governorate to scrap physical paper documentation in favour of digital systems, according to Egypt Today.

In layman’s terms, services such as notarisation, renewing driving licenses, utilities and electricity, will all be digitised. The project is being spearheaded by the Ministry of Finance, Minister of Finance, Mohammed Maait, revealing that Kafr El-Sheikh, Ismailia, Suez and Suez Canal University will be next to use the new system.

While it seems a given that Egypt catch-up with much of the rest of the world, the explicit goal is to improve efficiency and speed in governmental services.
