The FIFA series has long been an interactive homage to football’s finest, and who better than ‘Magic Mo’ to grace its latest entry’s cover?
What else can we say about Mohamed Salah that we haven’t already said? The record-breaking, highest-scoring and ultra-charitable Egyptian football phenomenon has well and truly taken the football world by storm; becoming one of Egypt and Africa’s most impressive and enduring young players at just 25 years of age. So it’s no surprise that fans of Liverpool’s “Egyptian King” have been showing their support for putting the young Pharaoh on FIFA19’s front cover.
In a recent poll on FP, a FIFA-centric site run by - and made for - fans of the series, Salah is proudly sitting on the tippy-top of the votes at about 74%, with 144,136 of 195,139 votes at the time of writing this article. He’s immediately preceded by Barcelona superstar and Hep-C annihilator Lionel Messi, with just 9% (18,489), of the votes followed by living legend and FIFA18 poster boy, Cristiano Ronaldo, with just 6% (11,378) of the votes. Other folks on the list include fan favourites and longtime icons Thomas Müller, Neymar, David de Gea, Paulo Dybala and Gareth Bale among many other pitch-perfect stars.
With any luck, the (somewhat soulless) folks over at EA Sports should catch wind of the rising Egyptian star’s raging popularity among fans around the globe, and give him a nice, cushy and well deserved spot on FIFA19’s front cover (and maybe pick a better music playlist than last year’s).
