Naguib Sawires to Turn the Home of Legendary Egyptian Poet Ahmed Fouad Negm into a Museum
Naguib Sawiris called it the best thing he could do in his life.
It's no secret that Naguib Sawiris is a huge fan of Ahmed Fouad Negm, the iconic colloquial poet who departed the world in 2013. Sawiris has since launched the Ahmed Fouad Negm Colloquial Poetry Award, and it's just been announced that he has purchased the late poet's house and plans to turn it into a museum, Ahram Online reports.
At the announcement ceremony, held at AUC New Cairo on Tuesday, Sawiris called upon anyone who has photos or handwritten poems by Fouad to come forward with them and donate them to the museum. So infatuated with the legendary figure is Sawires, that he added a special Negm Prize in the annual Sawires Literature Awards.
"The Negm prize is the best thing I ever did in my life," Sawiris emotionally said at the ceremony, which was attended by a slew of the biggest names in Egypt's arts and culture scenes.
The date ate for the inauguration of the museum is yet to be announced.
