El Bebany Has Been Serving Kebab in El Helmeya for 120 Years

Located in El Helmeya, the eatery was first established in 1802 for the sole reason of making kebabs. Fast forward 120 years, and they’re still doing the same exact thing.

Do you know that one Aly El Haggar song that starts with ‘’Next to El Bebany’s door”? You don’t need to actually know it, you just need to know that the iconic Aly El Haggar cared enough to mention a kebab restaurant in one of his songs. Located in El Helmeya, the eatery was first established in 1802 for the sole reason of making kebabs. Fast forward 120 years, and they’re still doing the same exact thing.

Located in El Helmeya, one rarely stumbles upon a joint that has been operating for over a century. El Bebany stood the test of time because upon entering the shop, you’ll instantly be transported somewhere, el zaman el gameel if you will, where Egyptian food wasn’t only eaten but celebrated. When was the last time you had a kebab and thought you needed a moment for yourself? That is exactly what El Bebany is all about.

On this week's episode of 'A Story from Every Corner,' we head down to Kebabgy El Bebany to get up close and personal with the spot that has been comfortably sitting on the Iron Throne of, well, kebabs for as long as anyone can remember.
