This New Cairo Asian Street Food Joint is the DON Deal

Don Eatery is the Asian food joint breathing life back into our ramen.

Layla Raik

The Asian food scene in Cairo, while mostly delicious, is a much more challenging feat to go through than one might think. For good East Asian cuisine you often have to travel to the uninhabited fourth floor of some sketchy Tagamoa mall, where you can hardly find Japanese that isn’t just sushi, and where no one really understands the depth of Korean cuisine. Yet, your unfaltering hope has not been in vain: it is with great joy and slight disbelief that we tell you that we may have found an Asian food spot that does it all - New Cairo’s DON Eatery.

DON has everything. Cute interiors (let’s just say your neon sign IG story needs are covered), multicultural cuisine (we’re hearing about Vietnamese for the first time), and an actual accessible menu. It doesn’t end there; the spot specialises in giving your dishes a soulful edge, which essentially means that soggy noodles are a thing of the past. You can now get your ramen shoyu and vibrant, your bao exuberant and your teriyaki zesty with life.
