Designer Salim Cherfane's forthcoming capsule collection ‘Fairies on Mushrooms’ wholly encapsulates his whimsical essence, as he incorporates vibrant prints to showcase his utmost heart-felt emotions.
Beirut born multi-disciplinary artist Salim Cherfane first emerged in the creative industry as a graphic designer and art director, before delving into fashion design with his brand ‘Jeux De Mains’. The brand gained the privilege of styling American pop icon Beyoncé in 2019, just two years into its inception. Cherfane himself has been featured in famous fashion publications worldwide and was named Designer of the Year by L’Orient Le Jour in 2019.
The designer's forthcoming capsule collection ‘Fairies on Mushrooms’ wholly encapsulates his playful essence, as he incorporates vibrant prints to showcase his utmost heart-felt emotions. “I understand design as an invitation to play,” Cherfane tells SceneStyled. “In this respect, the imagination is vast and its manifestations unlimited.”
Cherfane’s approach in design is story-driven; he cultivates inspiration from mundane playfulness by channelling his inner child and evoking a state of imagination beyond this realm. “One of the key elements of my approach is colour, I see the world in palettes,” Cherfane says. “The crumbling teal walls of an old building, the glistening blue garbage bags littering Beirut, the faded pink sky at sunset have all found their way into my work.”
The promotional material for ‘Fairies on Mushrooms’ was shot in a location he deemed immaterial; an idyllic spot by the river where he goes to unplug from reality. “That spot became my therapy for the past two years where I go every time to take a break from the reality we are living in,” Cherfane shares.
The capsule collection is still in a formative stage. However a limited selection of mystical garments are currently up for grabs.
