Dance Company GOODSPACE to Host Middle East's Biggest Dance Camp
With a collection of the world’s leading performers including Nicole Kirkland, Melvin Timtim and Josh Kodish, the intensive camp looks to ignite a passion for dance in its participants.
After diving into the depths of the global dance scene, Mahmoud Shoukry and Layla Ghaleb - two of the region’s biggest choreographers, leading dance practitioners as well as the masterminds behind Balqees’ hit ‘Diplomacy’ and Mohamed Ramadan’s Times Square ‘TikTok’ Music video - swam back up to the surface with GOODSPACE. The dance company-turned-community channels the unfeigned energy we lusted after throughout our adolescence. The LA7 affiliate and talent scouts embody the unbridled passion, grit, and child-like reverie witnessed during an intense game of dodgeball, emblazoned with silly remarks and sporadic periods of laughter.
“GOODWEEKEND is about pushing yourself beyond your limits. We’re trying to provide the same experiences we've been fortunate enough to receive over the past decade,” co-founder Mahmoud Shoukry tells #CairoScene. “We want people to gain a better understanding of the culture of rigorous training, of going to camp, attending ten, eleven classes a day, sweating and learning, all the while socialising and communicating with other people who share the same love for your passion.”
Bringing together world-leading performers like Nicole Kirkland (yes, the ‘Under the Influence’ dancer who left us all gobsmacked), Melvin Timtim and Jake Kodish, GOODWEEKEND attempts to ignite the same passion garnered by the experts within every camp attendee.
“We’ve chosen people that we've learnt from on more than one occasion, ones we’re extremely well acquainted with,” co-founder Layla Ghaleb explains. “We’ve been to a lot of classes and experienced countless times where we felt as though they were focused on acceptance, love and support, and so we try to channel that same sentiment. This is where the human connection, acceptance, forgiveness and inspiration happens.”
Taking place from September 28th to October 1st in New Cairo, GOODWEEKEND invites you to drop all pre-possessed notions of dance and succumb to the experience. Early bird spots are now up for grabs via bit.ly/3Sg5hCP.
