The El Nour School for Girls in Alexandria has established an electronic library for the visually impaired - the first of its kind in Egypt.

The library includes six devices that allow students to browse an entire backlog of books in Braille, as well as touch screens that let them easily read and write in Braille. The screen can also convert files in Braille into Word documents, or vice versa.

The opening represents another step for greater inclusion of people with disabilities in Egyptian education, which includes training programmes for teachers and staff across the country to learn about the needs of children with disabilities and how to address them, in cooperation with Ain Shams University and the Faculty of Kindergarten at Alexandria University.
