Egyptian Football League's All Time Top Scorer Passes Away

Way back in the 60s, before it was just Zamalek and Ahly dominating the Egyptian Football League, Tersana were competing as one of the best teams in the country, clinching the championship in 1963 as well as two cup titles in 1965 and 1967.

This was largely thanks to prolific striker Hassan El Shazly who spent his entire careet at Tersana and won the top scorers’ award four times in 1963, 1965, 1966 and 1975, including a one-season record of 34 goals during the 74/75 season.

Shazly who developed a wicked partnership in front of goal with another Egyptian legend Mustapha Riyadh at Tersana, is also the national team's all time top scorer in the African Nations Cup having scored 12 times in three competitions.

More recently he took up the position of manager at Tersana before working as a pundit on TV. He passed away at the age of 71 on Monday.
