Female Co.’s Plant-Based Skincare Products Are Sustainable for Both Your Skin and the Earth

Being green never looked so pink. These cute, unassuming little tubs of creams and scrubs from Female Co. aren't just great for your skin. Beneath their preppy exterior lies the brainchild of pharmacist and founder Dr. Merna Khaled, a carefully calculated integration of plants and other natural ingredients designed to bring about real, sustainable skincare results without harming the Earth.

“I’ve always had two sides of my personality. I love formulations and the pharmaceutical industry, but I hate the effect it leaves on the environment," Dr. Khaled told #CairoScene. "There are companies that use ‘filler ingredients’ which aren’t active ingredients but only increase the volume of the product and leave harmful effects on us and the environment in the long run.”

The brand makes cleansing balms, facial mist toners, lip masks and lip scrubs, and are one of the few local producers of cleansing balms in Egypt, which Dr. Khaled believes is an extremely undervalued product among Egyptians. “People aren’t used to washing their face using oils," Dr. Khaled said. "The concept behind cleansing balms is that oil attracts oil. Oils live deep in  our skin pores, which later on causes bumps, acne, blackheads, and so on. Cleansing balm is like a two-minute mini facial, it penetrates the accumulation and pushes it out.”

Medical cleansers dry out our faces and our skin becomes tolerant over time. Female Co.’s natural plant-based alternatives are more sustainable for our skin, since natural cleansers don’t allow your skin to become as tolerant.

“For me Female Co. isn’t just an organic skincare brand," Dr. Khaled said. "It’s something I want to be held to spread awareness about female health in our society. Female health isn’t discussed like it should be, and we’re afraid to ask questions." As such, Female Co.’s website is home to a blog resource which will discuss full body wellness, not just for skin, but for internal organ and female health as well.

Having just launched on July 1st, Female Co. is now available to shop through www.female-co.com or sourcebeauty.me
