How the People's Needs' Kitchen is Serving Up Charity This Ramadan

Ramadan is a month of compassion, kindness, and charity. It's a time to reflect on our blessings and share them with those in need. In Cairo, one initiative is embodying the spirit of Ramadan through their tireless efforts to feed the hungry and provide comfort to the less fortunate.

Founded in 2017, People's Needs is a community initiative that operates a kitchen year-round in the Mohandessin neighbourhood. They cook, pack, and distribute meals to impoverished neighbourhoods across the capital. On top of that, they also gather donations to buy blankets and distribute them every winter, build rooftops in poor villages across Egypt, collaborate with startups and multinational companies to help them do good, and much more.

During Ramadan, People's Needs steps up their game with a target of 2,000 meals a day, which they pack and distribute in Al-Sayeda Zainab, Ezbet Khairalla, Batn Al-Baqara and the refugee neighbourhood in the 6th of October area.

We recently had the opportunity to visit People's Needs during their Ramadan kitchen operation. We watched as volunteers stirred pots, passed down drinks, and filled containers with steaming hot meals. The atmosphere was one of camaraderie and purpose, as everyone worked together to ensure that those in need would have a meal to break their fast.

If you're looking for a way to give back during those last precious days of Ramadan, People's Needs’ doors are open from 12 PM to 3 PM, while their meal distribution starts at 3 PM and ends at 5 PM.
