After giving birth to her first child, El Shimi was inspired to take her business one step further and produce a kid-friendly product to make her kids’ Ramadan days a little less daunting.
Established in 2016, ‘Little Packs of Prayer’ is the local brand wrapping Islamic virtues and Ramadan festivities up in a little pocket-sized gift for Egyptian youth. With a collection of illustrated pamphlets, board games, and craft-based games, this local initiative is all about making kids fall in love with the yearly festivities.
Architecture grad and mum of three, Dalia el Shimi, has dedicated most of her time towards navigating the design industry, “My main goal was to upgrade and re-brand the religious printed content in the local market,” El Shimi tells #CairoScene. In turn, El Shimi began dipping her toes into the world of product design, starting with four pocket-size prayer booklets.
After giving birth to her first child, El Shimi was inspired to take her business one step further and produce a kid-friendly product to make her kids’ Ramadan days a little less daunting. “My aim was to engage the kids in Islamic festivities and make it memorable just the way they love and wait for the joyful festivities of the New Year,” El Shimi says. “That's what motivated me to create an educational yet fun activity box for the kids to learn and enjoy the Holy Month. Little that I knew, it caused a ripple effect and started a movement that inspired everyone to follow later.”
‘Little Packs of Prayer’ are available for purchase at littlepacksofprayer.com, where they also offer giveaways for weddings, baby showers, funerals, or just for the sake of having them.
