If you’ve been to Ras Sudr anytime recently, you’ve likely noticed that large beige complex under construction on the way into town. It’s the third branch of King Salman International University, one of the more prominent national projects for higher education in Sinai. They are already operating the main branch in El Tur, as well as a second branch in Sharm El Sheikh.

The new Ras Sudr branch has been under construction for a while. The first stage alone costs EGP 2.7 billion, and is about 75 acres large. The aim of the university is to do two things; encourage a growing population in Sinai, and provide residents with the necessary educational resources to develop the area themselves. Case in point, the university has a department of desert agriculture so students can learn to benefit from the drylands of Ras Sudr.

Additionally, the university will offer basic sciences, veterinary medicine, pharmacy, administrative sciences, and social sciences. More interestingly, the university will have an on-campus farm as well.
