WATCH: This Bab El Louq Villa Was Built Under Egypt’s Last Khedive

This 19th-century house in Bab El Louk was built by Muhammad Faidy Pasha, director general of Awqaf under the last Khedive Abbas Helmy. The home served as a family residence for generations, then became student housing before returning to the family in 2013. Its three floors have clear functions: the first floor for offices and guests, the second for bedrooms, and the third for visitors. The building’s French-style architecture is topped with a distinctive rooster-shaped weathervane.
