8 Songs We Know and Love That Got A Middle Eastern Twist

There is no escaping Western music anywhere in the world. Drake and The Weeknd make up most almost all of our playlists or at least our Uber soundtracks. Musicians all around the world have been trying to keep up with the Western form of music because that’s what people want to listen to. But these Western tracks turned Middle Eastern are proof that those Western musicians have nothing on us Middle Easterners. Check out El-Touch El-Masry on these gems below.

Mashrou’ Leila - Clint Eastwood Cover

Mashrou’ Leila’s unique sound is known to Arabs far and wide, and they’ve been known to put their own twist on many songs from musicians all over the world. But no other Mashrou’ Leila cover showcases their sound like their cover of the Gorillaz’s feel good track, Clint Eastwood.

DJ Pretentious - Get Lucky

The only way to describe Daft Punk’s ‘Get Lucky’ is funk meets 21st century. DJ Pretentious’s version is more Daft Punk meets Oud.

Moseqar - ‘We Can't Stop "مايلي على القهوة"’

Miley Cyrus’s ‘We Can’t Stop’ is the song that iconically started the twerking epidemic at parties and nightclubs world wide. Mosqar decided that it wasn’t a dance at a party song, it was more of a ‘etmazig 3ala el qahwa’ song. Be sure to check out the rest of his ‘3ala el qahawa’ series on his soundcloud page.

Feelelneel - Shot the Sheriff

Listening to feelelneel sing their Arabic cover of Bob Marley's "I Shot the Sheriff" is like listening to the real thing, only the more Egyptian version.

Remi G - John Lenon & Fayrouz Imagine/Yemken

When Fayrouz made her own version of John Lennon's classic 'imagine' we were already so excited, and when we found this mashup/cover we got even more excited than we were.

Sons of Yusuf - Hala (We Dem Boyz Remix)

Arabs can't just not put their own twist on things everything, and that includes Wiz Kahlifa's "We Dem Boyz"

DJ Nadeem - PSY GANGNAM STYLE 강남스타일 Arabic Remix

Since birth, us Arabs were taught that everything sounds better with a tabla in it, but maybe this one took it a little too far.

Mohamed Oraby - Micheal Jackson Beat it

Again... Sometimes Tabla isn't always the answer.
