8 Bars Episode Two: Ahmed Santa

#SceneNoise’s new series spotlights 8 young Egyptian rappers breaking through one of the most chaotic, exciting scenes in the region, talking everything from beefs and branding, to entourages and origins. After the debut episode put Lege-Cy in the hot seat, Ahmed Santa is next in line.

It was around 2015 that the name ‘Ahmed Santa’ started to do the rounds on what was then an Egyptian rap scene still forming itself. Back then, Santa was making a name for himself as rappers whose freestyle flows were second to none. 

Fast forward six years and he now stands on the brink of a breakout that has been years in the making. While Santa himself is the first to refute claims of ‘making it’, his rise has put him front and centre of an increasingly rich and prolific rap scene in Egypt. His tracks and videos have garnered millions of plays and views; he’s become a frequent collaborator with some of the scene’s biggest names, such as Abyusif; and he’s managed to do something that few freestyle rappers have managed to do anywhere in the world: take the essence of his freestyling and witty lyrics into the studio.

We put Santa in the 8 Bars spotlight to find out more about a rapper who many have marked to be one of Egypt’s next big stars.

وعلى مدار 6 سنين، شفنا "سانتا" بيتطور بشكل مبهر وقدر يخلي اسمه في نجوم الصفوف الأولى في مشهد الراب المصري.
أغانيه وفيديو كليباته اتشافت واتسمعت بالملايين، وشفناه بيتعاون مع أكبر الأسامي في السين، زي أبيوسف، وقدر يعمل حاجات قليليين من مغنيين الراب في العالم قدروا يعملوها، وهو انه ينقل موهبته في الفري ستايل للاستديو!
