Retro Legends: Fairuz

In the realm of timeless melodies and soul-stirring vocals, few artists have left an indelible mark like the iconic Lebanese singer Fairuz. With a career spanning over seven decades, she enchanted audiences worldwide with her mesmerising voice, poetic lyrics, and unwavering passion for her craft.

Known as the ‘soul of Lebanon’, Fairuz began her musical career when she was a teenager, having joined a chorus at the national radio station in Lebanon in the late 1940s. With an extensive discography including almost 1500 songs and more than 80 albums, and selling over 150 million records globally, she stands as one of the top-selling Middle Eastern artists in history.

Her sons, Ziad and Mansour Rahbani, also took part in her legacy, having composed many of her songs. Eventually, Fairuz worked almost exclusively with Ziad. From classic anthems like ‘Aatini Al Nay’ to heartfelt ballads like ‘Sa'alouni Al Nas’, Fairuz’s music transcends borders and languages, resonating with generations across the region.

In this edition of Retro Legends, we revisit some of her iconic ballads, ‘Shayef El Bahr Shou Kebeer’, ‘Kifak Enta’ and more.
