Shkoon - Pushing the Boundaries of Cross-Cultural Electronica

Shkoon - composed of Ameen from Syria and Thorben from Hamburg, Germany - is bringing their latest album release ‘Masrahiya’ on a world tour which kicked off with a performance at the Great Pyramids of Giza. Guided by a spirit of musical diplomacy, Shkoon has been making waves with their Arab electronica - creatively weaving their dual sonic identity into dance floor ready, partially improvised, live sets.

Diving into the Arabic translation of "theatre" or "a play," the concept of their latest album 'Masrahiya' explores the performances and the masks we adorn in our everyday lives. 'Masrahiya' is artfully juxtaposed against the canvas of a three-chaptered album from which themes of tragedy, politics, and irony spill forth. The duo describes their music as a perpetual rebellion against conventional sonic norms, passionately striving to transcend cross-cultural boundaries.

Sharing their excitement to play in Egypt, we had the opportunity to talk to Shkoon ahead of their Pyramids performance about the album concept, production processes and musical evolution.
