In recent years, we’ve seen Saudi Arabia go through unprecedented socio-economic transformations as part of massive reforms espoused by Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman. From the progressive establishment of the General Entertainment Authority in 2016, a state agency that has since sponsored a series of star-studded concerts, stage shows and festivals, to the establishment of the Music Commission in 2020, a government agency affiliated to the Saudi Culture Ministry with the aim of overseeing the development of the music sector, providing non-discriminatory access to music education, empowering musical talent and contributing to the local economy.

This year the Kingdom is taking noticeable measures in implementing music as a core part of the school curriculum, and their latest efforts comes in the form of a new music training qualifying course for teachers, which kicked off its first phase on Sunday, June 4th, with the immense participation of 7,000 female kindergarten teachers.

The four-week course is being implemented under the strategy of developing cultural capabilities in a partnership between the Saudi ministries of culture and education under the Music Commission’s supervision.

The course aims to improve teachers’ cognitive and performance skills, elevating their ability to detect kids’ talents at an early age and develop them in a way helping to boost competitiveness between educational and cultural sectors.

In tandem with the Kingdom’s transformative ‘Vision 2030’ initiative. This move to expose Saudis to music from a young age ignites areas of children’s development and readiness for school, increases intellectual & linguistic development, and improves their social-emotional skills by building students’ personalities and self-confidence, ultimately enhancing their artistic taste.

Registration in the second phase of the same course will be announced later for aspiring female teachers.
