Lobster Night at Vent!

Now that we've got the attention of all you hungry elitists, we have to admit there will be no lobster bisque on the menu at Vent this weekend. We know they've had an upgrade, but not that far. Instead, expect the caviar of London's upcoming underground Electronic labels in town.

Headed by DJ/Producer Jimmy Asquith, Lobster Theremin is a traditionalist label coming out of the UK with a futurist view of House. The label has been making a massive name for itself of late with their crate-digger mentality, bringing in relatively unknown artists with an ear for phantasmal soundscapes and tight rhythms, and releasing their EPs mainly through vinyl.

Keeping in line with their impressive array of bookings in recent months, including much-applauded international artists such as Ital & Aurora Halal, Thursday, October 23 will see Lobster Theremin take over Vent. Along with them will be Asquith and the label's Budapest-based producer Route 8, whose recent EP "Dry Thoughts" is described by the label as "Hazy summer pads drift over tight, rhythmic drum patterns and crystal synth lines. A proper trip into the unknown."

It can't be stressed enough what a big night this will be, and how it speaks volumes for how far Cairo's underground scene has come in recent years. This is in no small part thanks to the venue's insistence on keep Cairo on level with any other major city's House and Techno scenes. "What we're trying to do with our international bookings this season is keep it as fresh and forward as possible," Vent co-founder Asem Tag tells us.

"Every month, we will be bringing an acclaimed label to do a showcase at Vent, supported by some of our local talent. This month's event features Lobster Theremin, a London-based label that has been on quite the roll. You know when you wanna buy every single release? Label head Jimmy Asquith and contributor Route 8 will be here this Thursday for their Cairo debut, and we wanna show them how we do things down here. It'll be one of those nights where we have to usher people to the door to leave."

Tag himself, and Xuli will also be part of the line up for the night.

Gig starts 22:00. For reservation details e-mail RSVPventcairo@gmail.com
