Moroccan Singer Breaks YouTube Record
Moroccan singer Saad Lamjarred’s 'Lma3allem' has reached over 40 million views in a month.
Moroccan singer Lamjarred’s hit song Lm3allem has proven that the Arab world can break the internet having racked up 9 million views in a week, and now, a month later, has hit the 40 million mark, breaking the YouTube record for Arab music.
Morocco's music has struck again in its ability to attract an international audience, as well as appealing to those with more traditional tastes in Arabic music. The runaway hit mixes Arabic lyrics with dubstep and techno elements. The video too follows the same concept, mixing unmistakable Moroccan cultural traits with a western twist.
All eyes have been on Lamjarred since 2007 after he appeared on the popular reality show Super Star and he was later nominated for an MTV Europe Music Award in 2014.
