Khaled Abol Naga Performs 'Seven' at the Greek Campus

Internationally acclaimed theatre play, Seven, comes to Cairo’s Greek Campus, where celebrities Khaled Abol Naga and Menna Shalaby will bring to life the real stories of seven marginalised women who stepped up and transformed their communities. The play, which has toured the world with high-profile performances from actors such as Meryl Streep, arrives for the first time in Egypt, where a thrilling mixture of Arab celebrities and public figures will take to the stage on November 19th at 7 PM.

Prominent figures reading these inspiring stories include human rights activist Ragia Omran, and Anissa Hassouna, Executive Director of the Magdi Yacoub Heart Foundation. Other figures include UN Women’s Regional Director for Arab States, Mohamed Naciri, and Dr. Fatema Khafagy, regional gender expert and former Director of the Egyptian Ombudsman’s Office for Gender Equality and Women’s Rights.

Landing in the Arab world with performances in Jordan and Morocco, the reading in Cairo is organised by El-Warsha Theatre Troupe and Hedda Productions, with the support of the Swedish Institute and the Swedish Embassy in Cairo. The reading, which is free of charge, will be directed by renowned theatre director Hassan El Geretly, founder of El-Warsha Theatre Troupe.

The play is presented as a stage reading of the stories of seven women from backgrounds as different as Nigeria, Afghanistan, Guatemala, Russia, Pakistan, Northern Ireland, and Cambodia. Created by seven female authors, in collaboration with Vital Voices Global Partnership, the international tour aims at bringing women’s rights issues to the forefront of the political and media agenda, raising the debate on women’s role in society.

“This play highlights the transformative power of women’s leadership. Throughout my time in Egypt, I have been fortunate to hear similar stories of inspiring Egyptian women whose leadership has been equally transformative," said Charlotta Sparre, Sweden’s Ambassador in Egypt.

Get tickets here and find out more on the project through Seven’s website and Facebook page.
