A new film festival hits Egypt as Zawya hosts its first Short Film Festival. The event, which kicks off today, will feature 24 films and prizes in three different categories.

Zawya Short Film Festival Kicks Off Today

Zawya's Short Film Festival at Cinema Karim will kick off today 4th of February and will spread out over three days of film screenings and a fourth day of awards, ending on the 7th of February. Zawya is the beloved screening theatre that features obscure foreign films as well as local Indie pictures. In their latest efforts to encourage the local Indie film scene, they are hosting the first edition of Zawya Short Film Festival where a total of 24 films will be screened competing over three prizes.The prizes are in the name of Misr International Films and will be distributed in the following categories: Best Film, Best Director, and Jury Prize. Tickets can be bought for the screenings at Cinema Karim on the same day of screenings starting 12 PM each day, no pre-bookings available. Prizes will be handed out on the fourth day during the awards ceremony starting at 6:30 PM, followed by a screening of the jury's short movies; the star studded jury consists of Hala Khalil, Wael Mandour, and Nadine Khan.

Some of the titles to catch our eyes are Muhammed Ibrahim and Hisham Atta'allahs X to Be, Sameh Alaa's Le Steak De Tante Margaux, Marwan Imam's Prayer Time, Mariam Elias and Marwa El-Shazly's Drawing On a Nude Body, and Hady Bassiony's Antichrist.
